DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN CHENNAI (INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT)
Upon your arrival at Chennai International Airport, our representative will be waiting for you at the ARRIVAL TERMINAL building. After completing customs and immigration formalities, and collecting your baggage, our representative will meet you at the exit. From there, you will be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy independent activities and leisure.
DAY 2: CHENNAI – KANCHIPURAM – MAHABALIPURAM
After breakfast at the hotel, embark on a sightseeing tour of Chennai. Your tour will begin with a visit to Fort St. George (Closed on Fridays & Public Holidays), which is currently used by the Tamil Nadu Government. Inside the compound, you’ll find a museum displaying artifacts from the East India Company and the British period. From there, proceed to Mylapore and visit the magnificent Kapaleeswarar Temple, the largest temple in Chennai, dating back to the 13th century AD. Drive past the Marina Beach, the second longest beach in the world, stretching for miles.
In the afternoon, you will be driven to Mahabalipuram via Kanchipuram (approximately 140 km / 3 hours). Kanchipuram is a bustling pilgrimage center known for its remarkable temple precincts. After exploring Kanchipuram, continue your drive to Mahabalipuram. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the evening at your leisure.
DAY 3: MAHABALIPURAM
After breakfast at the hotel, embark on a sightseeing tour of Mahabalipuram. Visit the iconic Shore Temple, the only remaining temple from the land of Seven Pagodas. Visit the renowned Sri Aurobindo Ashram, founded by Sri Aurobindo Ghose in 1926. DAY 5: PONDICHERRY – CHIDAMBARAM – THANJAVUR
After breakfast, drive to Thanjavur via Chidambaram (1.5 hours). In Chidambaram, visit the famous Natarajan Temple, an architectural marvel and a significant religious site. While driving from Chidambaram to Thanjavur, you can also explore the temples of Kumbakonam. Continue your journey to Thanjavur and check in to your hotel upon arrival.
DAY 6: THANJAVUR – KARAIKUDI
After an early breakfast, embark on a sightseeing tour of Thanjavur. Begin with a visit to the Brihadeeshwara Temple, a masterpiece of Dravidian architecture built in the 10th century by Raja Chola. Explore the temple and its surroundings, including the ruins of the Palace, which houses the Tamil University Museum, the Art Gallery, and the Saraswati Mahal Library with its collection of palm leaf and paper manuscripts.
Later, drive to Karaikudi (approximately 160 km / 4 hours), with a brief stop in Trichy. Visit the Rock Fort, an ancient landmark with a climb of 434 steps leading to the Ganapati Temple and further up to a Shiva Temple. Explore the Sri Rangan Temple. Upon arrival in Karaikudi, check in to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free for you to explore the local village at your own pace.
DAY 7: KARAIKUDI – RAMESHWARAM
Continue your journey to Rameshwaram, located at the southern tip (approximately 145 km / 3 hours). Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and relax.
DAY 8: RAMESHWARAM – MADURAI
Early in the morning, visit Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple, a magnificent temple known for its beautiful corridors and sculptured pillars. Before entering the temple, partake in a ritual bath in the 22 theerthakundams within the temple premises.
Later, drive to Madurai (approximately 170 km / 3.5 hours). Upon arrival, check in to your hotel. In the late evening, witness the closing ceremony (Ardhajama Pooja) at Meenakshi Temple. Please note that non-Hindu foreigners are not allowed inside the inner sanctum of the temple.
DAY 9: MADURAI – CHENNAI (DOMESTIC FLIGHT)
In the morning, embark on a sightseeing tour of Madurai. Explore the famous Meenakshi Temple, an architectural marvel and a major religious center.
